From the inbox, an interesting and history-filled foodie event at The Gage.

The Gage and Great Lakes Brewing Company present Sumerian Beer Dinner

The Gage invites beer enthusiasts to journey to the reaches of Mesopotamia through a Sumerian Beer Dinner in partnership with Great Lakes Brewing Company and the Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago. On Wednesday, March 19th, beginning at 6 p.m., Executive Chef Peter Coenen will present guests with a three-course dinner accompanied by a special presentation by representatives from Great Lakes and the Oriental Institute about the practice of brewing in ancient Sumeria.

Inspired by a recent visit to his alma mater (the University of Chicago), Great Lakes Brewing Company co-owner Pat Conway enlisted historians, scientists and archaeologists to brew an accurate version of the first-recorded beer recipe from Sumeria. The fertile region, now present-day Iraq and Kuwait, is lauded as the birthplace of civilization.

The Gage invites guests to explore old-world tastes in a modern menu and atmosphere. This fascinating event takes place in The Gage's intimate private dining room. Doors open at 5 p.m. for a cocktail reception, followed by dinner and the educational presentation at 6 p.m. Cost is $70 per person, including tax and gratuity. Reservations for the Sumerian Beer Dinner are required and can be made online by visiting The Gage and atbrownpapertickets.com. Space is limited.
