Chicago Foodie Sisters' contestant wins Popcorn Factory flavor competition

Last fall, we posted about this contest. We partnered with the Popcorn Factory to round up some creative recipes for the next big popcorn flavor.

I was so excited to learn that someone who entered through our blog was a finalist. We got an invite to the Flavor-Off at the Chopping Block at the Merchandise Mart to see some of the finalists in action preparing their flavors.

So, this was our finalist, Rebecca Williams. Isn't she adorable? She said that she had been working on a cookbook and created her flavor on a whim with what she had on hand - fresh sage. It was a magic ingredient that impressed everyone.

The other finalists prepared a Sriracha Popcorn and Bananas Foster Popcorn. Both were fantastic. I was very fond of the Bananas Foster that had bits of dried banana.  We also tried a few other flavors from finalists that were mixed up by some of the chefs - Thai Chili and Lime Popcorn, Pumpkin Spice Latte Popcorn and Maple Bacon Popcorn.

Chief Popcornologist Marty Dennis had a hard task in selecting a winner for the contest, but in the end he said that OUR contestant, Rebecca, created a flavor that "took me to another place." We couldn't agree more. Congratulations to Rebecca! We were so happy to see her flavor come out as the favorite! As the winner, Rebecca got a $500 prize and a chance to visit the Popcorn Factory facilities to have her flavor produced there. Stay tuned for more on Rebecca's visit to headquarters!
