Weber Grill Celebrates 25th anniversary with three-course $25 meal

It has been 25 years since Weber Grill first opened its doors and if you visit between now and Sunday, you can try out a special throwback menu of items similar to what was served back in 1989. You'll also enjoy throwback prices.

Chicago Foodie Sisters was invited to come try out the anniversary menu and it was my first time there. My husband and I visited the Lombard location to get a taste of Weber in the late 80's. Here's a look at the offerings:

The waitress described the Weber's Backyard Brew as being similar to Goose Island's 312. It was mild and smooth and a big bargain at just $2.50.

The traditional sangria, also just $2.50 this week was lovely and refreshing. Peeking out from the back are the pretzel rolls that are served up with cheddar butter. Yes, you read that right. CHEDDAR. BUTTER. The mixture of Mert's cheddar cheese, butter and smoked onion slathered on a pretzel bun is the perfect start to a meal.

For the first course, you have a choice of Baked Onion Soup or a Mixed Green Salad with a white balsamic dressing. I ordered the salad, which I somehow missed getting a picture of. Hubby is a good sport. He always orders something different that I do so that I have a chance to sample it as well.
The salad was large and the dressing light with ample veggies for those who love their greens. However, the soup is the real star of the starters. I don't care if it is 90 degrees outside, you're missing out if you don't order a bowl of this flavorful, gooey bowl of goodness. :)

There were three choices for entrees. I selected the Planked Grilled Salmon with seasonal vegetables, which was green beans. It was wonderful. The salmon was sweet and flaky, the beans were lightly seasoned with a nice crunch.

Hubby ordered ribs (love the sauce) and he had a choice of two sides. He selected the creamy blue cheese pecan cole slaw and the Weber's Hickory BBQ sauce. It also came with a slice of cornbread. I'm still thinking about those baked beans - some of the best I've ever had.

And be sure to save room for sweets. Your options are a mini triple chocolate bundt cake or a seasonally inspired cheesecake. I'm quite the chocoholic and ordered the bundt cake, which was very good, but the cheesecake was so good I couldn't stop at one bite. Hubby almost didn't get it back.

If you've not yet been to Weber Grill, this is the perfect time to get there. There's also a $5 burger and chips special for the lunch menu this week.

The original Weber Grill opened in Wheeling. There are now three Chicagoland locations in addition to a restaurant in Indianapolis.
